Professor Susan Koshy's article "Minority Cosmopolitanism," (PMLA, Volume 126, Number 3, May 2011, pp. 592–609 (18)) has been selected as a winner of an Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities Honorable Mention for best faculty research.

Asian American Studies faculty affiliate J.B. Capino (Associate Professor, English) was awarded the Association for Asian American Studies (AAAS) 2010 Book Award in Cultural Studies for his monograph Dream Factories of a Former Colony: American Fantasies, Philippine Cinema (University of Minnesota Press, 2010).

Esther Kim Lee speaks at George Washington University

Professor Esther Kim Lee will be a featured speaker at the 19th Hahn Moo-Sook Colloquium (2011): "Staging Korea: Korean Theatre in Search of New Aesthetics." The colloquium will be held November 4-5, 2011 at George Washington University.  The HMS Colloquium series provides a forum for academic discussion of Korean humanities in the context of East Asia and the world. The series was created by an endowment established by the estate of Hahn Moo-Sook, one of Korea’s most honored writers, to uphold her spirit of openness, curiosity and commitment to education.

Prof. Lee's talk is titled "'Remember to Forget: A Study of the Family in Contemporary Plays from the Korean Diaspora in the U.S" and will be given on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

Professor Kent A. Ono will speak at the Asian, Pacific Islander American Studies Program at University of Michigan. Prof. Ono's talk is titled "Non-Essential or De-essential Identities: A Key Problematic in Asian American Screen Studies" and will be given on Thursday, October 27, 2011.
